What Happened, Happened

There are things that do not have an explanation. They just happen. Accepting this is, perhaps, one of the most complicated things there is. Accept that you couldn’t have done anything. And if you could, you didn’t and that’s how it was. That there is no possible return to the past.
What happened happened

We spend our lives looking for a why.
Analyzing again and again what happened.
Wondering what would have happened if we hadn’t done this.
What would have happened if we had.

We spend our lives wondering why us.
Or why not us.
Envying this or that.
Mentally reviewing each act to see where we went wrong.
Looking for culprits.

Taking responsibility for issues that are simple accidents.
Just as a branch falls, people disappear from the world.
And we can kick whatever we want.
We can unravel the meaning.
Find the reasons.
Put the cry in the sky and get angry.
Get very angry.
But it is of no use.

There are things that do not have an explanation.
They just happen.
Accepting this is, perhaps, one of the most complicated things out there.
Accept that you couldn’t have done anything.
And if you could, you didn’t and that’s how it was.
That there is no possible return to the past.
That that cannot be changed.
That the past is a rock.
Accept the event.
As it is.
Accept that it cannot be modified.
That all we can do is take the little things that are left now.
And do something with them.

That’s the only thing we can do with what happened.
Promise us that it will not be in vain.
That we will do better.
Contemplate what surrounds us.
The tide that makes the wave return to shore.
The tree that breaks.
The wind that moves the treetops.
Clouds breaking through the blue.
The puddle in which the house is reflected.
And understand that we are part of that whole.
That we are made of the same stuff the world is made of.
Assume sadness is possible.
Because when things matter to us.
Sometimes they hurt us.

We spend our lives looking for a why.
And maybe all we need is to know what the question is.
Nobody knows why or what we are here for.
Together.
But since we are.
Let’s live.
