Fresh fruits are delicious and packed with vitamins, but every now and then you can try a delicacy: grilled fruit. Surprise your friends with a very different barbecue. They can also be roasted, we explain the best methods for each of them.
Roasted banana

There is no summer without a massive barbecue, but if this summer you want a very different meal, get ready to grill fruit on the grill.

Preparing fruits is as easy as grilling vegetables. We give you the best recipes and tips to prepare fruit in a very original and tasty way.

Barbecued apples and pears

Grilled caramelized apple or pear slices taste great and appeal to young and old alike.

These fruits can be easily prepared and seasoned as desired, for example as spicy slices with chilli and fresh marjoram, as a refreshing summer dessert with mint and lemon, or with a classic “baked apple flavor”.

Ingredients (for three or four servings):

  • 2 apples
  • 2 tablespoons apple syrup or other liquid sweetener
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon amaretto (optional)
  • 1 apple pitter

Elaboration:

  1. Mix the apple syrup, amaretto and cinnamon until you have a smooth marinade.
  2. Wash the apples, dry them, and core them with a corer.
  3. Cut crosswise into slices about 5mm thick.
  4. Place the slices side by side and spread a thin layer of the marinade over them.
  5. Place the apples, marinated side down, on the warm grill. Spread the marinade on the top side and flip the slices after about five minutes. After another five minutes on the grill, they will be done.

Grilled apple slices taste great both hot and cold. They are already a pleasure on their own, but they go perfectly with a scoop of ice cream or a vanilla cream.

Grilled pineapple

Roasting pineapples is easy with just a few ingredients. The yellow fruit caramelizes on the grill and becomes much more aromatic and sweet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey or other sweetener

Elaboration:

  1. Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. Then cut the shell from top to bottom.
  2. Remove the stem with a knife or pineapple cutter. Then cut the pineapple into slices 1 to 1.5 centimeters wide. You can also cut the pineapple lengthwise into eight wedges and cut the stem of each piece with a knife.
  3. Spread the slices or wedges side by side and paint them evenly with a thin layer of oil.
  4. Place the pieces directly on the rack and cook for three to four minutes until lightly browned. Turn the pieces over, brush with honey and grill again for a few minutes.

Grilled pineapple tastes great on a seitan burger, which can also be grilled.

Handle bananas

On the grill, bananas turn into hot delicacies that can be seasoned in a variety of ways. Even overripe brown bananas can be grilled and don’t need to end up in the trash. The preparation is very simple and it is worked directly on the grid.

Ingredients:

  • Bananas
  • Honey, sugar mixed with cinnamon or chocolate (optional)

Elaboration:

  1. Cut the banana peel lengthwise and open it a little.
  2. Optionally, add a sweetener like honey, sugar, cinnamon, or chocolate.
  3. Place the banana directly on the grill and cook for about ten minutes, until the skin is brown and the pulp is slightly bubbly. If the grill is still very hot, it is best to use the edge area a little cooler so that the skin does not burn and the pulp does not drip.
  4. It is best to eat it while it is still warm.

Roasted watermelon

Grilled watermelon is the perfect dessert to finish an evening of barbecue, because even if you are full, there is always room for a piece of watermelon. The preparation is very easy and does not require any special preparation.

Elaboration:

  1. Cut the watermelon into quarters and then into two-centimeter-thick slices. Slices that are too thin will break when turned.
  2. Place the watermelon slices on the grill slightly cooled, but still warm. If your grill is still very hot, place them toward the edge or use the zone for indirect heat (if your grill has one).
  3. Turn the slices after about five minutes.
  4. Finally sprinkle a pinch of salt over the watermelon and serve warm.

The melon can also be prepared directly on the rack. To do this, cut the melon lengthwise into eight wedges, remove the seeds and cook on all sides for a few minutes.

If you want to grill fruit more often, it may be worth buying a barbecue basket. This makes it easy to flip cantaloupe slices and other types of fruit without falling through the rack or breaking.

Prepare the strawberries on the grill

The easiest way to prepare strawberries is in a stainless steel barbecue basket.

Elaboration:

  1. Remove the leaves from the strawberries, cut the larger berries in half so they are approximately the same size, and place them on the roasting pan.
  2. After five minutes on the grill, the fruits are ready.
  3. For even more flavor, mix two tablespoons of honey with a little lemon juice and a pinch of finely chopped rosemary and spread it evenly over the strawberries.

If you don’t have a grill pan or basket, skewer the strawberries on a wooden skewer. You can also prepare assorted fruit skewers. To do this, prick strawberries, melon, pineapple and peach and place them directly on the rack.

Make sure all types of fruit are cut into equal-sized pieces so they cook at the same time, if possible.

Grilled peaches and nectarines

With a scoop of vanilla ice cream, grilled peaches complete the barbecue evening. Prep is child’s play and peaches can be roasted a few hours in advance for barbecue night. The recipe also works with nectarines.

Ingredients:

  • Peaches or nectarines
  • Honey

Elaboration:

  1. Cut the peaches in half and remove the pits.
  2. Paint the cut surfaces with a thin layer of honey.
  3. Place the halves cut side down on the edge of the grill and grill over low heat for four to five minutes.
  4. Flip the peaches over, cook for one more minute, and serve immediately.

Apricots can also be grilled this way. To do this, place the apricots cut in half without the pit on wooden skewers so that they do not fall through the rack. You can also smear a little honey on them or leave them like that, naturally
